The Annual Beach Trip

The Pelazinis and associated families (Peelers, Martins, and Havelkas) are getting ready for the annual beach trip to Carlsbad, California. We stay in the so-called campground at South Carlsbad State Beach. We will be there from Sunday (July 30th) to Sunday (August 6th).

Here's a map of the area around the campground (in case you might want to visit):

And here's a quick map of the campground itself (we have 80 and 81 on the north end and we will be on the beach at the X):

So if you want to come down for a day or night or whatever, just give me a call.

Current mood: getting excited for the beach and Katie's arrival tomorrow morning
Current music:

I feel like I'm caught up in a race
You can't break the fall
I won't let you go to waste..."

Golf Stories

This license plate frame was on an SUV at Talega Golf Club in San Clemente. The guy driving it was a middle aged white guy. I have to agree with the frame, but it appears to be supporting USC...and I am not a fan of them either. So at least it's half right. But the license plate frame was not the big story of the day...

Above, I have drawn the 18th hole at Talega Golf Club. We teed off from the blue tees, which were the 2nd farthest back. I played golf with Kenny, my dad, and a family friend named Mike. Mike is a big guy and can knock the shit out of the ball. But he hates courses with houses because he gets all paranoid about damaging the homes.

The entire day, we hadn't seen homes on the course. But on this hole, right of the line in the picture was all homes. The square with an X is supposed to represent a house. Mike drilled a tee shot with his shiny new driver.....right into the line of homes. Now, these homes should have been nowhere near the normal course of play, but he managed to hit it 80 yards off line.

As soon as he hit it, he dropped the driver and started chanting "oh shit, oh shit, oh shit" as he listened for the crash of shattering glass. We never heard anything, so we figured all was OK. He hit a provisional down the left hand side of the fairway (we call that a protection shot- protecting against hitting it in the houses again).

We got up in the fairway and we didn't see anyone running down the hill with a shotgun towards us, so we figured everything was A-OK and Mike's ball missed the homes.

Well...

We finished up the round of torture (I played like shit) and went to the parking lot to load the car up with the bags and such. As we were loading the car, a lady in an Escalade drove up. She stopped at our car and rolled down her window. She was pissed.

"Did any of guys see anyone hit a golf ball into the homes? I just got a window broken 20 minutes ago."

Hmmm.....nope. Mike nearly shit his pants. We told her that we had finished awhile back and had been sitting in at the snack shop. Ha.

She drove away and we tidied up the car. Unfortunately, we had to hang around to punch our scores into the computer for the handicap. Kenny, my dad, and I went to the pro shop to do so. Mike was nowhere to be found to enter his score. He was hiding in the men's pissers to stay out of sight of the pissed off lady. He finally got to enter his score and we tore out of the parking lot.

The entire way home, Mike was trying to rationalize the events. He was trying to think of a way that would free him from any guilt by saying like "people living on a course need to expect a ball every now and then" or "no, that couldn't have been me" or "we didn't hear a crash" and my personal favorite "she should have had plexiglass."

You're the leaky sink of sentiment,
You're the failed attempts I never could forget.
You're the metaphors I can't create to comprehend this curse that I call love..
How will I break the news to you?"

Internship Over

I finished up my last day at Long's this summer. I worked 308 hours, and most of it was a good learning experience and a more hands-on practical application of all the crap I learned last year. Of course, there were some rude/ angry/ impatient/ unreasonable customers, but oh well. Those folks are everywhere.

Going Away Golf Day

Alex, Greg, and I headed out to Beaumont to play PGA of Southern California at Oak Valley for one final time before Alex left for Arizona. We played one course in the morning, eat lunch (including Alex's memorable feast on a cheeseburger!), and then played the other course in the afternoon. During the course of the day, we saw 113 degree heat, rainstorms, thunder and lightning, and some good shots. I had my 6th under par round ever, so that made me happy. Alex, we'll have to play some courses in Arizona. And Greg, thanks for giving me the chance to play Torrey a few weeks back. If anyone wants to see pics from that glorious day, check out the facebook album I made. If you want videos (some might have cussing and/or hilarity involved), just leave a message and your email- I'll send the best ones.

Spaghetti Feed Online Auction Administrator....wait....what the hell?

Every year, the school of pharmacy has a spaghetti feed where the staff cooks spaghetti and garlic bread and serves it up to paying customers. After the meal, there is a live auction. The money raised it used for the pharmacy school and the activities we are involved in. Well, the turn-out and the money raised last year was abysmally low compared to prior years.

This coming year, a new idea is going to be tried. The live auction is going to be augmented with an online auction at a site called
www.cmarket.com. And I was nominated to be the Online Auction Administrator.

OK folks, just because I have a little obsession with eBay and I'm good at it does not mean that I want to do extra work on an online auction site for no monetary gain. If my classes weren't so fucking hard and time-consuming, then maybe. Maybe. Not for sure, just maybe. But seriously, why was I nominated? Did I do shit last year on a volunteer basis? No. Am I awesome with computers? No, not by any stretch of the imagination.

So why me? I know why. Some of my fellow classmates have seen me tinkering on eBay during class and burning CDs out of class. I ran a few auctions for a friend (so he would give me a CD player for my truck for free). And the word got out that Rico is an eBay addict and he loves to do extra work outside what he already does.

Fuck.

Tennis Time

My uncle and I are going to UCLA tomorrow to watch the men's pro tennis tournament. My cousin, Kenny's daughter, is one of the people running the tournament and she gets X number of free tickets, as well as free parking passes and free food vouchers. She gets to mingle with all the tennis stars that show up: Andre Agassi (and wife Steffi Graf), Andy Roddick, and James Blake.

I'm sure it is going to be hotter than Hell tomorrow at UCLA. And we'll be sitting in the direct sunlight....on concrete....surrounded by concrete....for hours on end....and there's no Maria Sharapova or Anna Kournikova there....

But at least the price is right. :)

Cali-fucked

I swear, I have never seen the areas around here look so shitty. The streets are littered, there is a lot more graffitti, and the whole area is more ghetto than I remember. The pollution seems worse and people have worse road rage. There are more shootings than ever before. We have a constant power shortage and fire surplus. There are more illegal immigrants here than normal citizens. I can't wait to get back to Idaho. But on a bright note, at least we had a good sunset tonight.

Current mood: exhausted from the manual labor I did at work today (moving old pharmacy records and paper work downstairs to be shredded)
Current music:

"Go ahead as you waste your days with thinking
When you fall everyone stands
Another day and you've had your fill of sinking
With the life held in your
Hands are shaking cold
These hands are meant to hold
Speak to me, when all you got to keep is strong
Move along, move along like I know you do
And even when your hope is gone
Move along, move along just to make it through
Move along
Move along
So a day when you've lost yourself completely
Could be a night when your life ends
Such a heart that will lead you to deceiving
All the pain held in your
Hands are shaking cold
Your hands are mine to hold
Speak to me, when all you got to keep is strong
Move along, move along like I know you do
And even when your hope is gone
Move along, move along just to make it through
Move along
(Go on, go on, go on, go on)
When everything is wrong, we move along
(Go on, go on, go on, go on)
When everything is wrong, we move along
Along, along, along
When all you got to keep is strong
Move along, move along like I know you do
And even when your hope is gone
Move along, move along just to make it through
(Go on, go on, go on, go on)
Right back what is wrong
We move along"

Nokia 6102i

I finally got a new cell phone. I can't count how many times I have dropped (and had shatter into all the possible pieces- battery, SIM card, faceplates, keypad, etc.) my now old cell phone. The face was so scratched that it was getting hard to see through. The keypad was starting to get kinda iffy and the back plate didn't stay on too well. Also, the lock function was lame....I'm sure you've all gotten the call or the long message from me. You know, the call or message where you get to hear the coins jingling in my pocket, faint voices, or just fabric sounds. Now you won't have to wonder what the hell I was doing anymore, since those calls should be a thing of the past.

Also, this nifty new phone has a grainy little camera on it. So now I can see a poor resolution and not-to-mention tiny picture of you when I call (assuming I have a picture of you on my phone) you.

And in case you're wondering why I didn't get a RAZR or a SLVR (or however you spell that SHT)....this one was $12. Pure and simple. It's a phone, it's new, it's small, it's got a better locking keypad, and it's got a grainy camera.

The Post Office is the Winner on eBay

I have to make a run to the post office tomorrow....to mail 40 packages. There are 7 international packages (probably at least $4 a pop), 28 CD cases, and 8 miscellaneous shapes and sizes. I have estimated my total to be approximately $75 for the total postage. Jesus........

I am curious to see something about eBay and the USPS (and really all the other carriers like Fedex, DHL, UPS, and any others). I want to see if there has been a large increase in business for the carriers that correlates to the increased use of sites like www.eBay.com, www.Half.com, www.amazon.com, and all the other mail order sites (even sites like www.netflix.com). I know those mail carriers have to be doing better now than ever.....thanks to people like me. Bastards. Now if I only had helped start eBay, Paypal, and had a hand in the USPS.

Golf Trip

The top two pictures are at Torrey Pines. One is of the sun setting as we got to the 17th tee. No worries though....we finished...the last hole was a tad dark though. I played pretty well, but I couldn't putt to save my ass. It was pitiful. And oh yeah, I hit two fairways all day.

The picture of Greg is at Mt. Woodson. That course is an absolute bitch- narrow fairways, elevation changes, wind, quick/firm greens, blind shots, snakes, etc. Look at the size of the landing area where we had to hit it. I cleverly sliced it out here- and ended up with a snowman. :( But on the bright side, it was the only ball I lost in 2 days.

Immunized Kitty

Charlene was due for her shots. So my mom took her in to the vet's yesterday and got her up to date on her shots. Poor kitty. She was all mopey and pissed off yesterday when I got home from Greg's.

Dwindling Down
I have only 59.5 hours of work left this summer! Woohoo! I am done working on the 25th. Then I have a few days off before Katie gets here and the beach vacation. Well, I have to get breakfast and then go to work. :(

Heil Kitties!!!

I was just surfing random blogs and I found an interesting site on one. It's called "Cats That Look like Hitler" and the site has pictures of these "kitlers." Definitely one of the weirder things I've seen....although some of those cats do bear a resemblance to der Fuhrer. I mean, look at the guy above- he's got the hair and the mustache.

North Korea Vs. Joe

Well, Joe Chin is in South Korea and I don't envy him right now, what with the missile testing and all. Here's an article in case you missed hearing about it:

White Lies For The Dentist Part 2

Today was my dentist appointment, and as I had predicted, I got lectured on my flossing habits....or the lack thereof. Damnit!!! I really hate that.

But at least I had no cavities or gum problems. So yeah, I was right on that note too. And this is the best possible time right now......6 months until more lecturing on my flossing habits. YAY!!!

Workout

I went to the gym after my dentist appointment and did my usual workout. I put a picture in below of my shirt after I got home from that. I like how the pits hardly have any sweat and the back is just entirely soaked.

Sad Stuff

My granny had to go into an old folk's home because she can't really care for herself anymore. It's kind of scary to look back now and realize how frail and fragile she had been for so many years, but she was still driving and doing everything for herself. Anyhow, she's my last surviving grandparent.

We are starting to clean up her house, bit by bit, in order to sell it (since she won't ever get to live there again). We cleaned out some drawers in the main desk and found a bunch of my grandfather's stuff from when he served in the Navy- his dog tags and a bunch of jewelry he got from the places he visited (look at the year on the tags). Anyhow, my granny gave me the dog tags, since my bastard uncle (my mom's brother- not any uncle any of you readers have met) wouldn't care about them and his kids didn't really even know my grandfather. I say "my" grandfather even though he is theirs too, but they never visited him. So even though they have blood ties, I see nothing connecting them. We have his flag as well, which I suppose will be mine too.

White Lies For the Dentist

I have a dentist appointment tomorrow morning before work. And to prepare for that, I have been brushing, flossing, swishing Listerine, and tongue scraping like crazy for the last week. I know it seems retarded, but I hate being chided for poor oral hygiene by the workers and the dentist. It makes me feel like a first grader to be told to brush better or to floss more regularly. I know, I know. I know all that crap already, folks. So I just do it a lot right before an appointment, toughen up my gums and such, just to avoid being chided.

Don't get me wrong though- I do like the after-effects of going to the dentist. The clean, smooth teeth are a good reward for sitting through the hour of punishment. I just don't enjoy sitting there, hearing about how bad I am at brushing or how important a daily flossing regimen is. I just don't have the time/desire to floss every day, folks. I wish I did, but I don't. Don't ask me why I hate flossing every day, I know it's important in the prevention of cavities and staving off gum disease. I just hate doing it. Brushing is fine, flossing is just lame.

Ah well. I don't think I have any cavities, so the visit should be relatively easy enough. I hope. *Crosses fingers.*

Beach Trip #1

Believe it or not, I made my first beach trip of the summer this last weekend. I am surprised and kinda saddened that it was only the first of the summer for me. Usually, at this point in the summer, I've already made 5 trips. But with work, traffic, and the price of gas, I've declined to make any trips.

My dad, mom, and I went to Moonlight beach on Sunday. The waves were OK until about 3:00 PM, then they turned to wind-chopped, mushy shit. I went out in the water twice with a board, fins, and gloves and once without the board. I caught the biggest wave of the day without the board and promptly ate shit. It was bad and I am still a little sore from that wipeout. I just kept going ass over teakettle in the whitewater.

There were so many people on the beach that it made it impossible to get to the water. I felt like a blind man in a labyrinth trying to reach the ocean.

My feet got burnt to a crisp. Now, whenever I slide them into a shoe, I'm reminded that I should have paid more attention to them during the beach day. Ouch.

I'm including my work schedule below.

Back From The Break

My computer here at home crashed- the hard drive took a shit on me about 2 weeks ago so I have been without a computer since then. I apologize for the lack of blogging material, but I really had no choice. And to top it all off, my laptop went down with a dead battery too.

Needless to say, I was not real happy about this turn of events, since I had quite a few CDs on the home computer that I had already sold and not burned a copy of. Damnit.

Work

This last week, I worked 40 hours at Long's. Whew. It was pretty rough- I got used to working 30 hours. LOL. And yesterday was especially bad. One tech didn't show up in the morning, which put us way behind. There was just one pharmacist trying to answer the phones, fill prescriptions, and work the register when I got there.

We opened the order (the supply of drugs coming in) to find that a bottle containing a liquid had broken en route. So all the meds in there were trashed. So that put us farther behind yet. And people were lined up into the make-up section. It was rough. I think I sweat out about 5 pounds. We finally got a couple more techs in and things got a little bit better.
